Application Frozen — Force Quit
Use this
when: An app is “not responding”, or the window has
gone pale and unclickable.
Steps

1. Wait 30
seconds.

Apps do recover from long operations.
Force-quitting one that is saving is how you lose the file.

2. Try to
save (Ctrl+S) and close normally.
|
If it responds, you keep your work.
|
|
3. Open Task
Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc).
|
It opens even when everything else is
frozen.
|
|
4. Select
the app — it will say “not responding” — and click End task.
|
It closes immediately. Unsaved work in that
app is gone.
|
|
5. Reopen
the app.
|
Many apps offer to recover your document.
Take the offer.
|
If that did not work
The whole screen is frozen, Task
Manager included. Hold the power button 10 seconds
to force off. Last resort — you lose unsaved work everywhere.
The app freezes again as soon as it
reopens. Log a MEDIUM ticket. Do not uninstall and
reinstall it yourself.
Several apps freeze regularly. That is a system problem, not an app one. See “Windows Running
Slowly”, then log a ticket.
